The Big Lunch Day was a concept envisaged and promoted by the Eden Project in Cornwall. The idea being to encourage communities to come together and bring a shared lunch. The day nominated was the 18th July. One of our members, who also happens to be a member of the Parish Council, proposed to the Committee that it may be a good thing to hold a Big Lunch day event at the allotments. This was whole heartedly embraced by the Committee and the event took place, as planned, on Sun 18th July.
There were a few misgivings over the weather which was looking to be in danger of inclemecy but in the event stayed warm and partly sunny all day. There was, however, a fairly strong wind which made the errection of the marquees difficult but very necessary.
In addition to members and guests the event was attended by several members of the Parish Council and music was provided by a local couple who were also making a collection on behalf of Multiple Sclerosis. The event was well attended and everyone had an enjoyable afternoon.
Coincidentaly the 18th was Pete's birthday. Fiona had secretly made a birthday cake for him and he was given a rousing chorus of Happy Birthday to You.
Thanks are due to Keith, Christine, Tony etc. for their contribution to the organisation. To all others who helped errect marquees and prepare the area. Thanks again to Margaret and Joyce who, once again 'manned' the container all afternoon to dispense teas etc. Finally thanks go to all who participated and made the event great success it was.
