Birkett House and Bees

It has been a good year for the bees at the allotment. There are 5 hives, of various designs, 2 of which have been relocated from Judge Meadows school in Leicester for convenience as the school was shut. These have all been managed by Chris, the chairman, who also had to rescue a swarm from further down Glebe Drive at the beginning of the summer.

Trophy Cup Winners 2020

On the 1st August, the 2020 trophy cup winners were announced at Countesthorpe Gardens and Allotments.

The two trophies that allotment members were competing for were the Best Allotment and the Most Improved Plot. Plots 26, 28, 38, 44 and 48, were all picked by the Allotment Society Committee to be in for a chance of winning the Best Allotment trophy. Plots 22 and 24 were identified by the Committee as contenders for the Most Improved Plot trophy.

After careful consideration from the Committee, the winners were chosen!

Trophy Cups

Although the annual show will not take place this year due to the corona virus, the allotment committee will be digging out the Trophy Cups and will be awarding them to allotment plot holders at the end of July.

Polite Notice

It has been brought to our attention that not everyone is locking the gate upon entering an leaving the allotment site.

Not locking the gate leaves the allotments open to unsavoury persons walking around the premises.

Please ensure that you always lock the gate when you enter and leave the site.

Take it slow!

Unfortunately we have received a complaint from a resident on Glebe Drive over some plot holders (not all) driving too fast, creating a dust cloud over the residents homes due to the dry weather.

As you may be aware, the road is in a very bad condition, a notice is up at the allotment along with the complaint received asking plot holders to reduce their speed.
